Desire 99

Evening, the hour the light goes warm and low. Desire 99 was composed for it — the oldest material in Arabian perfumery, handled like a niche composition rather than a wall of sound.

Desire 99 opens with neroli — bright, a little bitter, the kind of citrus-flower note that holds itself together rather than flying off. It sets a clean line at the top. For a minute or two the perfume reads almost cool, before the centre arrives.

Then the oud. Real Arabian oud, placed at the centre of the composition rather than built into a wall in front of it. This is where Desire 99 parts company with the rest of the line: most Qanzari is composed without oud, this one is composed around it. The 99 is the composition code the formula carried on the perfumer's bench, kept on the bottle.

Underneath, premium musk and sandalwood take the weight off the oud and give it somewhere to settle. By the dry-down what began as a traditional Arabian opening has gone quieter — oud composed, not oud announced. What stays on the skin is warmth, wood, and a trace of the neroli that started it.

Desire 99 is an evening perfume, and a cool-weather one. It lands in formal rooms, work that runs into dinner, gatherings where projection matters but discretion matters more. Strong on the skin without raising its voice — a few touches at the pulse points carry the whole night.
